2021 / Mixed media installation / 18 L x 12 W x 2 D ft (5,5 x 3,7 x 0,6 m) / Installation view from Annex Gallery, Brookline Arts Center, MA
This work grows around three main plant specimens found in the surrounding environment of the installation site. Asian Knotweed, a highly invasive plant coming from the eastern world; American Burnweed, native to the U.S. but is considered invasive to places in Asia; and Sugar Maple, visible through the windows in front of the gallery space and is a well-known representative of this northeastern U.S. region. Thinking about the ideas of home, migration, and interconnectedness, these specimens display impressive abilities to adapt and thrive; against the controversial debates of their invasive existence, reflecting through my own migration history.
