The Progress of The Race

2018 / Inkjet print, pins, foam, wood, paracord / 141 x 117 x 59 in (358 x 297 x 150 cm) / Installation view from Five Myles Gallery, NY
Prints of Vietnamese herbs and vegetables from my grandmother’s garden are hand-cut and pinned as specimens on a bed-like structure. The work examines my relationship with my passing grandmother and the food she grows for her family. Using scientific and natural history visuals, the installation depicts an effort of studying, preserving, and prolonging the lives/memories of the things it observes. The subjects are undoubtedly decaying, yet with hope of strength and growth for the generations to come.
